slower reduction to allow body weights to improve. This is also recommended in open rearing houses.<\/li>\n<li>Light intensity in rearing never should be much lower than what will be expected in the production house.<\/li>\n<li>Always avoid any sharp increases of light intensity after transfer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col\">\n\r\n\t<div class=\"paoc-image-popup\">\r\n\t\t<a class=\"paoc-popup-click paoc-popup-cust-629 paoc-popup-image paoc-popup-image\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"popupaoc-img\" src=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/chickipediamedia\/layers\/growing\/f8.svg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"spacy\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Pullet development<\/h2>\n<p>Pullets show extreme body growth during this period. This is especially true if we consider the percentage of growth compared with the previous body weight.<\/p>\n<p>Even more importantly, at this stage the birds will develop most of their organs, <span data-cmtooltip=\"<div class=glossaryItemBody>&lt;strong&gt;Skeletal system&lt;\/strong&gt;: the skeleton in birds is more than a frame to support the body of them. It is a source of calcium for the production of the egg shell. The hens will use calcium from their bones to build the egg shell and recover it in the morning<\/div>\" class=\"glossaryLink\"> skeletal system <\/span> and muscles which are essential for their health and performance. Therefore, correct growth during this period is key to having\u00a0 productive and healthy adult birds.<\/p>\n<p>If growth is delayed in this period, further compensatory growth will be impossible as bone frame. The birds can reach the standard weight but the body development will di\ufb00er and hens can become overweight.<br \/>\nCheck that you are achieving the correct <a href=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/bird-assessment\/\">body weight<\/a> from week 1 and take corrective measures before it is too late.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>It is very important to achieve the standard body weight at week 5.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"narrow\">\r\n\t<div class=\"paoc-image-popup\">\r\n\t\t<a class=\"paoc-popup-click paoc-popup-cust-632 paoc-popup-image paoc-popup-image\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"popupaoc-img\" src=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/chickipediamedia\/layers\/growing\/f9.svg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Feed Intake<\/h2>\n<p>It is very important to promote good feed consumption to maintain correct development:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Temperature at week 3 should be 22 \u2013 23 \u00b0C. This can be slowly reduced over the next few weeks to around 19 at 9 weeks of age.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain a low <a href=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/house-preparation-and-arrival-of-chicks#stocking\">stocking density<\/a>. In cage rearing systems birds should distributed along all the cages as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain the adequate <a href=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/house-preparation-and-arrival-of-chicks#stocking\">feeder space<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Never restrict the feed intake.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/production-period-25-100-weeks#midnight\">midnight snack<\/a>\u201d if the standard weight is not reached. A series of natural molting will occur during the rearing period.
