They also prevent pathogens from challenging birds in their early life. Be sure that there is no disinfectant or insecticide residue left by the chick housing time.<\/li>\r\n\t\t<\/ul>\r\n\t\t<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\t<p>&nbsp;<\/p>-->\r\n<h2 id=\"stocking\">Stocking Density<\/h2>\r\n<p>An adequate <span data-cmtooltip=\"<div class=glossaryItemBody>&lt;strong&gt;Stocking density&lt;\/strong&gt;:number of birds that are kept on a given unit of area. In poultry the values are defined based on the housing system. In the cage system is meassured as cm2\/bird and in the cage free system is meassured as number of birds\/m2. Each country has its own regulation based on local experience and science available<\/div>\" class=\"glossaryLink\"> stocking density <\/span> leads to success in rearing chicks. A high stocking density impacts negatively on daily growth, flock uniformity and chick development.Furthermore, a high stocking density combined with reduced feeder space will limit feed consumption, which might already be low under certain conditions (e.g. hot climate or poor feed quality,) and sufficient access to water.<\/p>\r\n<div class=\"piefigura\">\r\n<p>Table 2: Stocking density in rearing farms<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"centrarimg imgwp reduce20\" src=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/chickipediamedia\/layers\/cleaning\/table2.svg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"smtxt center\">This table is a general recommendation and you should adhere to your own country&#8217;s recommendations.<\/div>\r\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\r\n<h2>Pre Heating the rearing house<\/h2>\r\n<div class=\"row\">\r\n<div class=\"autogrid\">\r\n<div class=\"col\">Pre-heat the house before the chicks arrive. Preheat 24 hours before arrival in warm weather and 48 hours in cold weather.<br>\r\n<div class=\"bluebox mt1\">Temperature recommendation<\/div>\r\nSoil: 24 \u00b0C Litter: 30 \u00b0C Air: 34 \u00b0C<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col\">Do not only heat the air, but also litter, soil and equipment. Chicks gain and lose temperature easily through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/fr\/house-environment\/#Hen_thermo_regulation\">conduction.<\/a>&nbsp;In case of \ufb02oor rearing, bring in the litter after preheating to allow the concrete to reach the desired temperature (24 \u00b0C).<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"centrarimg imgwp reduce10\" src=\"https:\/\/hn-int.codiantwp.com\/chickipediamedia\/layers\/cleaning\/termagrafic.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h2>Rearing house preparation | Flooring Rearing system<\/h2>\r\n<div id=\"mybox\" class=\"row\">\r\n<div class=\"autogrid\">\r\n<div class=\"col\">\r\n<h3>Distribute litter and paper<\/h3>\r\n<p>Old litter from the previous \ufb02ock should not be used. Using old litter increases the pressure of disease and may cause increased chick morbidity or mortality. During the \ufb01rst days, cups or nipples should be checked and triggered several times per day to stimulate the chicks to drink. Supply additional drinkers which can be easily accessed until the chicks are drinking from the regular water system.<\/p>\r\n<p>If using nipple drinkers, reduce the water pressure for a few days. In conventional pancake brooders, use chick guards (i.e. new cardboard) to prevent drafts. Start with a diameter of approx. 2 m in cool weather and approx. 4 m in hot weather. Enlarge the ring every couple of days and remove by six or seven days of age.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<h2>Cage rearing preparation | Cage Rearing system<\/h2>\r\n<div id=\"mybox\" class=\"row\">\r\n<div class=\"autogrid\">\r\n<div class=\"col\">\r\n<h3>Distribution<\/h3>\r\n<p>Birds are housed at a higher stocking density during the \ufb01rst weeks. To ensure uniform pullet growth, it is important that the birds are moved into the empty cages at the appropriate time and with the correct cage density.<\/p>\r\n<h3>Paper<\/h3>\r\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW2738597 BCX8\" lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW2738597 BCX8\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Body Text\">Cage wires should be covered with <\/span><\/span><span data-cmtooltip=\"<div class=glossaryItemBody>&lt;strong&gt;Paper&lt;\/strong&gt;:the paper used in the arrival of the chicks should be clean and resistant. It will get wet and dirty, so some resistance is needed. Newspapers can be used but it is recommended to use a more industrial think paper. In case of making coccidia vaccination, this paper is key for the recycling of the oocites of the vaccination, therefore for creating the proper immunity againts coccidia disease.<\/div>\" class=\"glossaryLink\"> paper <\/span> during the \ufb01rst week of life. Avoid covering the area directly under the drinking system, but cover the surrounding area. In cases where the wire size is too large for day old chicks. Use clean plastic matting to aid the chicks in reaching the drinkers.<\/p>\r\n<h3>Feeding system<\/h3>\r\n<p>Abundant feed should be provided in the feeders and additionally on the papers inside the cages before the chicks are housed to stimulate feed intake. When there is a feedchain inside the cage, \ufb01ll this chain up to 100 % (Manual) to reduce mortality when you run the feedchain in the \ufb01rst day(s).<\/p>\r\n<h3>Drinking system<\/h3>\r\n<p>360-activated nipples in the brooding cages are preferred. If unavailable, provide cup drinkers during the \ufb01rst week. Reduce the water pressure on the nipples to make triggering the nipples easier and attract the chicks by the drop formation. <span data-cmtooltip=\"<div class=glossaryItemBody>&lt;strong&gt;Flush the lines&lt;\/strong&gt;: activity of replacing the water content of the drinking pipes with new water, cleaner and at lower temperature to have a good quality water at the drinking time for the bird. Ensure adequate numbers of trained sta\ufb00 will be on-site for the delivery and unloading.<\/li>\r\n\t<\/ul>\r\n\t<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<\/div>-->\r\n<h2>Chick Housing<\/h2>\r\n<div id=\"mybox\" class=\"row\">\r\n<div class=\"autogrid\">\r\n<div class=\"col\">\r\n<h3>Transport<\/h3>\r\n<p>Transport can have a critical impact on oneday old chick quality. The correct temperature and ventilation levels should be guaranteed during transport. The transport time should be as short as possible. If transport exceeds more than 10 hours, the addition of a <span data-cmtooltip=\"<div class=glossaryItemBody>&lt;strong&gt;Hydration products&lt;\/strong&gt;: product design to estimulate its intake and bird will get additional water intake during the transport. The lost of hydratation is key for the survival of the birds in a transport after hatch.
